Journeying in God's story...

The Cole Family

If you have been with us from the beginning, we deeply appreciate your support throughout our adoption journey. Even after 4 years, we are still actively pursuing adoption. In order to understand why we are at this stage, it is important to hear our complex adoption story.

We started the international adoption process in 2020, pursuing a child from Malawi. We quickly connected with a lot of supportive and encouraging people and raised nearly all of our funds. We were matched with a baby for 7 months, but that match sadly fell through, but quickly after, we were matched with a 3 year old boy. We flew to Malawi in 2022 and spent a week in an orphanage visiting the boy gaining his trust little by little. At first he was naturally a little scared of us, but on the last day we saw him, he cried and reached for us as we left, which was a heartwarming moment knowing that we were starting to bond.

Unfortunately, because of lack of communication and organization, we were suddenly told that someone had matched us with the wrong child, and that child was already matched with the court judge! This left us shocked and devastated. We were told to just wait around for a new match while they did investigations on a different child, but then they stopped responding to any of our text messages and we made the hard decision to go back to the USA where our 3 kids were waiting. We were incredibly frustrated, but we still had a lot of hope that we would be matched again soon.

Despite our hopes for a new match, we faced month long delays and eventual complications within the adoption system. After two years of uncertainty, our agency was unexpectedly shut down by the government, resulting in the loss of nearly all of the funds we had raised and any hope of adopting.

Even though we were devastated, we prayed for clarity to know if we should give up or keep going. But God made it clear to all five of us that we need to persevere, but in a different direction. After a lot of prayer and research, we felt very strongly that we wanted to follow through with a USA domestic adoption.

Because of our travels to Malawi and the agency shutting down, we are now trying to find new donors or grants that could assist us in completing this adoption. We are also missionaries, living in Senegal, who raise our full support for salaries and business expenses. Although this journey has been extremely long and exhausting, God has given us a peace and a deep longing to complete what he led us into. We feel confident and hopeful in the path ahead!

We would be incredibly grateful for any financial assistance you could provide to help us give a child in need a safe and loving home. Thank you for your continued support and prayers.
